UPDATE — 7 November 2026: This file was first published on 1 November 2026, when one man had been arrested on suspicion of murder and no charge had been filed. On Monday 2 November 2026, West Yorkshire Police announced that Michael Gyedu, 26, of Rathmell Road, has been charged with murder, and that he was due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court that day. Three further arrests followed, all on suspicion of murder: a 26-year-old man on Sunday 1 November, a 39-year-old man on Wednesday 4 November, and a 28-year-old man in Nottingham on Thursday 5 November. The 26-year-old arrested on 1 November has been released under investigation; the 39-year-old has been bailed pending further enquiries; the 28-year-old remains in police custody. None of those three men has been named or charged in any source relied on here. Gyedu appeared at Leeds Crown Court for a mention hearing on Wednesday 4 November 2026; no plea is reported in the sources relied on here. The charge against Gyedu is an allegation, not a conviction, and he is presumed innocent. This file also now spells the victim's name "Raheim Jackson", the spelling used in the Police Service's current pages; earlier police material and several outlets spelled it "Rahiem", and direct quotations in this file keep the spelling as released. The rest of this file is the record as it stood on 1 November 2026, with the changes below marked.
Image note for readers: All images in this file are original illustrations created for Dark History Files. They are atmospheric artwork, not photographs and not real evidence. No image in this file depicts Raheim Jackson, any member of any family, any investigator, any arrested person, or any real person, and no image depicts any act of violence or any death.

Why this file is stamped CHARGED: The stamp records only the legal position as it stands on 7 November 2026. Michael Gyedu, 26, of Rathmell Road, has been charged with murder. Three further men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and have not been named or charged. No plea, no trial, and no verdict is reported in the sources relied on here. A charge is an accusation, not a conviction, and Gyedu is presumed innocent unless and until a court finds otherwise. If he enters a plea, if a trial produces a verdict, or if any further person is charged, this file will be updated, dated, and re-stamped — never quietly rewritten.
New Wortley is a residential area of Leeds, in West Yorkshire. On Saturday 24 October 2026, at about 10:23 p.m., West Yorkshire Police received a report that a man was being attacked with weapons outside a property on Hedley Chase, in New Wortley. Emergency services attended. Despite treatment by paramedics, the man was pronounced dead a short time later. That sequence — the time, the place, the report, the attendance, and the death despite treatment — comes from West Yorkshire Police's own first release, dated 25 October 2026, and it is the firm ground on which this whole file stands. Everything else in this file is built on later police releases and on reporting of them, and where the record stops, this file stops too.
The police were careful, from the start, about what kind of attack they were describing, and this file follows their wording exactly. In that first release, Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said that, from initial reports, four people who were armed with weapons had carried out a sustained attack on the victim. The same release called the attack targeted and isolated, and said a scene remained in place while extensive enquiries were carried out. "Targeted and isolated" is a police assessment about risk to the wider public, as stated at that stage. It is not a motive, and this file does not turn it into one. No source relied on here states why the attack happened, who the attackers knew, or what, if anything, had gone before it. A file that invented a reason for a fatal attack would be doing exactly what the fairness locks on this blog exist to prevent, and this file invents none.
It is also worth pausing on what the first release did not do. It did not name the victim. It did not name any suspect. It did not describe the weapons beyond the words "armed with weapons", and it did not describe any injury in any detail. This file keeps those same limits. There is no graphic detail in this file, because there is no graphic detail in the sources relied on here that would justify any, and because a family's loss does not become clearer by describing how a man died.
For two days, the victim in this case was an unnamed 38-year-old man. That changed on Tuesday 27 October 2026, when West Yorkshire Police named him: Raheim Jackson, known as Reema, aged 38, from Leeds. (The naming release as published at the time spelled the name 'Rahiem'; this file now uses 'Raheim', the spelling on the Police Service's current pages — see the update box.) The naming release also carried the family's tribute, and the tribute is the only personal material in this file, because it is the only personal material in the official record that the family themselves chose to release through the police.
His family said: "Rahiem was loved and adored by his sisters and family. He had a beautiful heart and beautiful soul; his smile was so infectious, and he lit up the room with his presence. Rahiem would have gone above and beyond for anybody he cared for." They added: "A very cowardly, cruel and senseless act of vicious violence has resulted in our brother's death. He wasn't just a brother he was a son, an uncle, a father, a partner, a nephew, a cousin, a grandson, brother in law and friend and he did not deserve to die the way he did." And they finished: "We are heartbroken and in so much pain and have been left inconsolable as a family. If anyone has any information to help the police find the persons who murdered Rahiem, please can you come forward."
This file quotes that tribute in full because it is the family's own words, released officially, and because it does work that no summary could do. It tells the reader who Raheim Jackson was to the people who knew him, in their words, without this file adding any biography it cannot source. It also tells the reader what the family asked for, which was not sympathy in the abstract but information: anyone who knows anything, to come forward. That request runs through the rest of this case, and it is the reason the police appeal at the end of this file is given in full, with its reference number, rather than paraphrased away.
The naming release also repeated, and sharpened, the police account of the attack. Detective Chief Inspector Bates, who is leading the investigation, said: "Rahiem's murder has devastated his family and we are doing everything we can to identify and bring those responsible to justice." He added: "We believe four people armed with weapons, carried out a sustained attack on Rahiem and I continue to urge anyone who may have seen those persons arrive at or flee the scene on Hedley Chase, or who has any footage of them to come forwards." Note the two different kinds of witness the police were asking for, even at that early stage. They were not only asking for people who saw the attack itself. They were asking for people who saw people arrive at the scene, and people who saw people leave it. In a case where four people are said to have been involved, the arrivals and the departures are evidence in their own right: they may show how many people came, from which direction, and how they left. A reader who was in Hedley Chase that night and saw nothing of the attack itself might still hold something the investigation needs, and the police wording makes that clear. This file keeps that distinction, because it is the difference between a witness appeal that helps and one that only repeats itself.
The naming release also confirmed the structure of the investigation. It is led by West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, under Detective Chief Inspector Bates. That team, and not a local neighbourhood team, is the unit that has handled the case from the murder investigation's opening on 25 October through to the arrest on 30 October.
On Friday 30 October 2026, six days after the attack, West Yorkshire Police announced what it called a significant development. Detectives investigating the murder of Raheim Jackson had arrested a man in London. A 26-year-old man was arrested overnight by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of murder, and remained in police custody. Enquiries into Raheim's death remain ongoing by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
Detective Chief Inspector Bates said: "This arrest is significant development in the murder investigation of Rahiem Jackson. Officers are continuing to support the family. Extensive enquiries remain ongoing and we continue to appeal for information around the attack. We continue to ask anyone who may have seen people arrive or leave the scene on Hedley Chase on Saturday night to come forward."
Every word of that paragraph needs to be read with the care it deserves, because it is easy to over-read an arrest announcement. First, the man arrested had not been named in any source relied on here at that time, and this file did not name him, because there was no name to report. Second, he had been arrested on suspicion of murder, which is the stage at which police detain a person for questioning while enquiries continue; it is not a charge, and no source relied on here reported a charge at that time. (Superseded — a charge was filed on 2 November 2026; see the update box.) Third, he remained in police custody at the time of the announcement, which is a statement about his position on 30 October, not a prediction about what will happen next. Fourth, the arrest was made in London, by the Metropolitan Police, in a case investigated by West Yorkshire Police — which tells the reader that the investigation had already reached beyond Leeds within six days, but tells the reader nothing about where the arrested man lives, how he was identified, or what connection, if any, police believe he has to the other three people said to have taken part in the attack. All of those questions are unanswered in the sources relied on here, and this file leaves them unanswered.
That last point — the other three — is the most important gap in the file, and it should be stated plainly rather than smoothed over. Police say four people carried out the attack. One man had been arrested on suspicion of murder. No source relied on here reported arrests of, charges against, or identifications of the other three people said to have been involved at that time. (Superseded in part — three further arrests and one charge followed on 1–6 November 2026; see the update box.) That does not mean no further arrests will happen, and it does not mean the investigation has narrowed to one person. It meant that, on the public record as it stood on 1 November 2026, three of the four people police believe took part had not been publicly accounted for by an arrest. (Superseded in part — four men have now been arrested in total; police have not said whether they are the four people said to have taken part.) The police appeal is still open, and it is still asking for the same thing it asked for on 27 October: anyone who saw people arrive at or leave Hedley Chase on Saturday night, and anyone with footage, to come forward.
On Monday 2 November 2026, West Yorkshire Police announced that Michael Gyedu, aged 26, of Rathmell Road, has been charged with murder, and that he was due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court that day. The police statement describes the arrest of a second man, aged 26, on the morning of Sunday 1 November on suspicion of murder, which indicates the charge relates to the earlier arrest on 30 October — the police statement does not name the man arrested in London, and this file states the link only as the police wording indicates it. Gyedu appeared at Leeds Crown Court (Leeds Combined Court Centre) for a mention hearing on Wednesday 4 November 2026; no plea is reported in the sources relied on here. On Wednesday 4 November, a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder; the 26-year-old arrested on 1 November was released under investigation the same day. On Thursday 5 November, a 28-year-old man was arrested in Nottingham on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. On Friday 6 November, police said the 39-year-old has been bailed pending further enquiries. None of the three men arrested on 1, 4 and 5 November has been named or charged in any source relied on here. The charge against Gyedu is an allegation, not a conviction, and he is presumed innocent. Police have not said whether the four men arrested are the four people they say carried out the attack, and this file does not say so.
It helps, at the end of a case narrative built on a short but official record, to separate the two lists cleanly. What is known: at about 10:23 p.m. on 24 October 2026, West Yorkshire Police received a report of a man being attacked with weapons outside a property on Hedley Chase, New Wortley, Leeds. Emergency services attended, and the man was pronounced dead a short time later despite paramedic treatment. A murder investigation was launched, led by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team under Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates. Police say four people armed with weapons carried out a sustained attack, and described the attack at that stage as targeted and isolated. On 27 October, police named the victim as Raheim Jackson, 38, known as Reema, of Leeds, and released his family's tribute. On 30 October, a 26-year-old man was arrested overnight in London by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of murder, and remained in police custody at that time. (A charge followed on 2 November 2026 — see the update box.) The investigation remains ongoing, and the police appeal, quoting reference 13260606745, remains open.
What is not known: why the attack happened; what any motive may have been; what weapons were used, beyond the police wording "armed with weapons"; the identities of the men arrested on 1, 4 and 5 November, and whether any of them will be charged; the identities of the other three people police believe took part, and whether they have been identified; how the arrested men were identified or located; and whether any further charges or court proceedings will follow. (The identity of the first man arrested, and whether he would be charged, is now answered — see the update box.) No source relied on here answers any of those questions, and this file does not guess at any of them. In particular, this file does not name the arrested man as a murderer, does not attribute a motive to him or to anyone else, and does not treat the arrest as a resolution. An arrest is a step in an investigation. A conviction, if one ever follows, would be a different step, in a court, on evidence this file has not seen and does not claim to have seen.
That second list is the reason this file was first stamped ARRESTED. The man arrested has now been charged, and further arrests have been announced — see the update box at the top of this file. Until then, the honest position is the one the police record supports: a man is dead, his family have asked for information, one man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and the investigation is still open.

What would change this file now: if Michael Gyedu enters a plea, if a trial produces a verdict, if any count is dismissed, if any of the other arrested men is charged or released, or if the spelling of the victim's name is settled differently by court records, this file will be updated with the date, the source, and the new stamp if the facts require it — never quietly rewritten. Until then, the stamp stays CHARGED.

Police appeal — if you have information: If you saw people arrive at or leave the scene on Hedley Chase, New Wortley, on the night of Saturday 24 October 2026, or if you have footage, contact West Yorkshire Police on 101 or via Live Chat, quoting reference 13260606745. Information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Do not name any person publicly as a suspect on the basis of this file — Michael Gyedu has been charged with murder and is presumed innocent unless and until a court finds otherwise, and the other men arrested have not been named by police and have not been charged.

Reader question: When police ask for footage of people arriving at or leaving a scene, why might an exact time on that footage matter more than a guess about what happened — and what should a witness check before sending it in?
