About Dark History Files

Dark History Files is not a blog that posts articles. It is an open archive. Every story here is opened as a numbered case file — researched from public records, court reporting and law-enforcement releases, stamped with its status, and told in full.

We cover true crime, unsolved cases, cold cases and the darkest chapters of history: the files that were closed too soon, the questions that were never answered, and the stories that deserve to stay open.

How Every File Is Built

Each case file is compiled from publicly available sources: court documents, police and coroners' records, official inquiries, law-enforcement releases and contemporary reporting. Every established fact is attributed to its source. Theories are always labelled as theories — never presented as fact.

Every file follows the same six-part dossier:

  1. The File Card — the case at a glance: file number, subject, date, location, status and a one-line summary.
  2. The Case — the full story, told chronologically.
  3. Timeline — a dated timeline of confirmed events only.
  4. Evidence & Leads — the physical evidence, sightings and official persons of interest, each item attributed.
  5. Still Unknown — the open questions, and what it would take to close the file.
  6. Watch the Full Story — the companion video telling of the case, where available, plus links to related files.

The Stamp Legend

  • UNSOLVED (red) — no confirmed resolution yet.
  • COLD CASE (grey) — unsolved and inactive for three or more years.
  • SOLVED — FILE CLOSED (black) — resolved and confirmed.
  • IDENTIFIED — an unidentified person who has been given their name back.
  • DARK HISTORY (sepia) — historical cases where everyone involved is long deceased.

Why Files, Not Articles

Articles disappear down a feed. Cases do not. A file stays open: when new evidence emerges, when an appeal is heard, or when a cold case is finally solved, we update the file, date the update and — where a case is resolved — re-stamp it. Files are never deleted and never silently rewritten. The record should show its working.

Who This Is For

Dark History Files is written for readers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada — and for anyone, anywhere, who wants the full story: carefully researched, honestly labelled and respectfully told.

Our Standards

  • Victim-first. Our stories centre the victims and the facts — never the glorification of killers.
  • No gore for shock value. We report what the record shows, and nothing more.
  • No unofficial suspects. We never name a private living person as a suspect unless an official agency has publicly named them.
  • Presumption of innocence. Anyone named as a suspect or person of interest is presumed innocent unless convicted in court.
  • Corrections. If we get something wrong, we correct the file and date the correction. Tell us via the Contact page.

Part of a Bigger Story

Dark History Files is the written archive companion to the Curiozoid channel, where many of these files are also told as documentaries. Read the file here; watch the full story there.
